A Letter to My 10-Year-Old Self from a Person in Recovery

İçindekiler

You gave me heartaches and burned bridges. You gave me sorrow and torn-apart goodbye letter to alcohols. As an individual who is in long-term recovery, I think that this is more relevant than ever before. The following letter is what I came up with. I know you’re still just around the corner, and so I’m staying ever-vigilant. But the path to my door is off-limits for good.

  • This emotion then creates a vicious spiral.
  • I’m angry at Hashem for putting this in front of me and giving me this challenge.
  • I’m only writing this letter because I have no one else to talk to about this.
  • Or at least, that’s what I thought, then.

And it will get better after that. Please know if I choose option one, I will not be acting under my own accord. Addiction will have me firmly in its grasp. I’ve tried to stop using in the past, but my illness is bigger than me.

A week from this day, you will receive a phone call stating that the newspaper says an indictment was issued for you on a felony charge. You will kiss your daughter goodbye and once again lose your breath. Given a recognizable pattern of relapse and recovery, restarting seems repetitive and tiresome, doesn’t it?

A Message to Addicts: Take Back Control of Your Life

One of the things that will happen to you in life is that you become addicted to alcohol. I wish that this were something that had not happened in your life, but that is not the case. You spend about five years battling this demon and this is something that nearly took your life. You will become an individual who has been able to make a difference in the lives you interact with. He didn’t realize that the struggle of getting out of the cocoon is exactly what it needed to be able to fly and live its new life as a butterfly. I told myself that I was not some crackpot, living on the streets, talking nonsense and spending my last penny on drugs.

This includes issues I have in my personal and professional life. I believed that the more I poured into you, the less I would have to worry about my other problems. For a while, everything seemed fine.
